Create your wallet in Eternl

Eternl allows users to browse and connect to Cardano dApps using a wallet. Below you'll create one 👍

Open the Eternl extension (top right corner of your browser). You will see the following in a new tab:

Click Add Wallet:

Click Create Wallet:

Choose a name to identify your wallet and a strong password:

Please note: Your wallet name and password are only stored locally. If you were to loose access to your wallet, the recovery phrase (see below) is the only means to recover your wallet. If you need to do this, you will be prompted for a new name and password.

We will only need one Account for the time being. Please click Save:

Before you proceed: From this point onward follow the onscreen instructions to the letter. Please make sure you understand what the recovery phrase is for, and how to best keep it safe.

Tip: Store your mnemonic on paper (a notebook that you will not loose): make 3 copies and keep them in at least 2 separate physical locations.

Acknowledge that nobody can see your screen and click continue:

Success: You have written down and checked you 24-word recovery phrase. 🥳

Your new Eternl wallet is now ready to be funded!

Take your time to navigate Eternl's interface and familiarise yourself with it. Below you will learn what to do in case you should loose access to your wallet.

Recovering an Eternl wallet

Should you loose access to your Eternl wallet for whichever reason (machine broken/lost/stolen), please use your recovery phrase to restore it. Choose "Add Wallet" in the top left menu:

In the following menu choose "Restore Wallet":

Choose which type of wallet you wish to recover (hence the length of of the recovery phrase):

This method of recovery works for most current Cardano wallets. You can, if you wish, use this method to import your wallet into more than one software.

Now enter your recovery phrase and click "Continue" once done:

You will be prompted for a new "Wallet Name" and a new "Spending Password":

Should someone get a hold of your recovery phrase, they can restore your wallet and gain full control of it, even if they don't know your spending password (they will be asked, like you just then, to make a new password).

Should you ever loose a copy of your recovery phrase, you must consider your wallet compromised, and transfer its contents to a new one.

Enter the number of accounts you wish to have in your wallet and click save:

One account is sufficient for most users, but having more than one account allows you to delegate to multiple stake pools.

You now have all the tools you need to manage your Eternl wallets. Please use your judgement and take time to practice creating, deleting and restoring wallets, in order to gain confidence.
